Local: Legislative authority is vested in the town meeting. A three-person Board of Selectmen administers Town affairs. Fiscal affairs are reviewed and approved by a Board of Finance. State: Kent is in the 108th Assembly District served by Representative Mary Ann Carson of New Fairfield; and in the 30th State Senatorial District served by Senator Andrew Roraback of Goshen. Federal: Kent is in the 5th Congressional District and is served by Representative Nancy Johnson of New Britain. Connecticut’s two Senators are Christopher Dodd and Joseph Lieberman.

Receives and files commission memberships, meeting minutes, notice and agendas. Registers voters and provides election material including absentee ballots. Marriage licenses, fish and game licenses and dog licenses are issued here. The vital statistics of Kent residents are maintained here which include death, birth and marriage certificates.
